Risk of Relapsing Deep Venous Thrombosis

When an episode of venous thromboembolism occurs, caused by a non-permanent risk factor, the duration of standard anticoagulation treatment is of about 3 months, and the consequent possibility of a new thromboembolic episode is low, in agreement with possibly present risk factors (surgery, pregnancy, use of oral contraceptives, long car or plane travels, immobility for injuries).

Bioengineered Blood Vessels Are State-of-the-Artery

Patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery need implants of new, healthy blood vessels. So do those who receive repeated hemodialysis due to kidney failure. The best option is to use the patient’s own veins or arteries, but thousands of patients don’t have resources available in their own bodies.
Now, scientists have demonstrated ready-to-use, bioengineered blood vessels made from human cells. The work appears in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
