  • Treatment of Resistant Pediculosis

The first-choice treatment in case of pediculosis is the use of a permethrin-based cream or a pyrethrum-based lotion. With this international randomized, double-blinded trial, two second-choice treatments have been compared in patients and cohabitants infested by lice and recently unsuccessfully treated with topic pyrethrum-based or malathion-based therapies. Over 800 subjects belonging to 376 families, all affected by head lice infestation, have received a single dose (according to their body weight) of ivermectin or a malathion-based lotion at 0.5%. Treatment was repeated after a week.
