Scientists in the Netherlands have discovered a way to weaken or erase fear-provoking memories with a beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist, or β-blocker, a finding that might help in the development of treatments for some anxiety disorders and phobias (Kindt M et al. Eating disorders are commonly occurring illnesses and have many associated complications, including high rates of suicide. The focus of treatment development has been on psychotherapy, particularly the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The use of CBT in bulimia nervosa has received an "A" evidence grade in the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines, although CBT has shown less clear evidence of benefit for anorexia nervosa.
