Baylor College of Medicine has been selected as one of 12 sites nationwide to conduct a study to determine if elderly men with low testosterone will benefit from testosterone treatment. "We are conducting this study because low testosterone levels can adversely affect the health of older men in several critical areas," said Dr. Glenn Cunningham, professor of medicine-endocrinology and principal investigator for the study at BCM.

The association between human papillomavirus virus (HPV) and several cancers has prompted experts to ponder whether HPV vaccination programmes should be extended to males. In the USA, an estimated 20 000 cases of cancer are caused by HPV infection every year. Aside from cervical cancer, the virus is also implicated in head and neck, anal, penile, vaginal, and vulval cancers. The combined incidence of these cancers equals that of cervical cancer. A quarter of cases of HPV-related cancers occur in men.
