  • Prophylaxis Against Deep Vein Thrombosis in Critically Ill Patients With Severe Renal Insufficiency With the Low-Molecular-Weight Heparin Dalteparin

In critically ill patients with severe renal insufficiency, DVT prophylaxis with dalteparin sodium, 5000 IU once daily, is not associated with an excessive anticoagulant effect due to drug bioaccumulation and is unlikely to contribute to bleeding.

  • Sodium Bicarbonate No Protection Against Contrast Nephropathy

Sodium bicarbonate does not prevent contrast-medium induced nephropathy in patients with moderate to severe renal dysfunction who are undergoing coronary angiography, a new randomized study has found.

  • Hotter Climate May Mean More Kidney Stones

A warming climate may make kidney stones more likely: hotter temperatures mean more fluid loss, which makes kidney stones more likely.

  • Prevention, Incidence, and Outcomes of Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury

Little is known about whether health care providers implement preventive care for contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI). The objectives of this prospective cohort study were to assess provider use of preventive strategies for CIAKI, to determine the incidence of CIAKI, and to examine the association of CIAKI with adverse outcomes at 30 days, including death, need for dialysis, and hospital admission.

  • Intensity of Renal Support in Critically Ill Patients with Acute Kidney Injury

This randomized, controlled trial compared standard renal-replacement therapy with more intensive therapy in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury and failure of at least one nonrenal organ or sepsis.

  • Chronic kidney disease: under-recognised, increasing, and deadly

Investigators from Taiwan report how chronic kidney disease (CKD) has a prevalence of around 12% in the Taiwanese population, although only a third of individuals are aware of having the disease.

  • Elevated Uric Acid Linked to Impaired Renal Function in Type 1 Diabetes

A study shows that serum uric acid concentration in the high-normal range is associated with impaired renal function in patients with type 1 diabetes and no proteinuria.

  • Chinolonics and Renal Damages

From previous trials, the association between ciprofloxacin and acute renal failure, probably realized through immunological-like mechanisms, was signalled.

  • Homocysteine in People with Severe Renal Disease

We know there is a relation between high levels of homocysteine and cardiovascular diseases, even if folic acid and vitamin B supplementations have not decreased the incidence of these diseases. So the interest is born on the presence of hyperhomocysteinemia in patients people with chronic renal disease.
