The prevalence of erosive esophagitis and other complications of gastro-esophageal reflux increases with years and among all the patients affected by gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) the oldest subjects more frequently have severe complications, like Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal carcinoma, compared to younger subjects.
